Recovering a 16th century tradition which became extinct with the arrival of industrialisation in 1960, the selling of raw & vegan tigernut milk horchata on the street, Món Orxata’s carts have become an icon on the streets of Valencia.

The first horchaterias opened in the late 19th century and in the mid-20th century. The street carts, the oldest way to sell horchata, then began to be seen as something for the poor and farmers.

In 2020, Món Orxata (Horchata World) continues to be the only company that keeps this ancient profession alive. 70 families live worthily of our work in the tigernuts fields and in the streets thanks to the raw horchata street carts.

Our carts cool the horchata in the same way as 100 years ago, using ice through an autonomous cooling system patented with the UPV (Universidad Politécnica de Valencia), so we don’t need to consume energy or emit gases or noises in order to cool our natural horchata.

In addition, the tigernut milk street carts are energetically autonomous thanks to solar panels installed on their roofs. In resume, they are 100% sustainable and ecological pushcarts … and not only for the wonderful raw, vegan & organic certified horchata that their friendly horchateras sell!

We would like to give a special mention to our horchata sellers – a group of 40 women who are our visible face on the streets of Valencia and the soul of “Món Orxata”.

These women persevere, are good humoured and hard workers. With their carts, they are bringing back the human and personalised treatment reminiscent of traditional street markets, something that is being lost with the invasion of department stores and some predatory supermarket chains.
